Smile

Don't you love it when color schemes flow across collections? Pouring over the new Maggie Holmes Confetti papers, I noticed that the colors are remarkably similar to those of another new collection from Crate Paper, the Craft Market collection. Having similar muted pinks, teal, gold and more means that I can combine pieces from each. And that worked out wonderfully on this page, shared on the Scraptastic blog yesterday.

The ticket paper from Crate Paper's Confetti collection was just the thing, as we had begun the evening with a performance of The Music Man. After cutting out two lines of tickets for the page, I gave them a more realistic look by punching holes along the sides and folding the the pink ones to raise them slightly off the page.

We couldn't take pictures during the play of course, but we DID take pictures of the special treat we enjoyed afterwards. I snapped a photo of my husband shaking powdered sugar all over his mom's beignets. Layers of embellishments surround and frame the picture.

Journaling is tucked between the collage of pretty elements and a fussy-cut flower border at the bottom of the page.

Making The Grade

Remember that Alice Cooper anthem to summertime, School's Out? It's been playing in my head for a few weeks now, and I couldn't be happier. The carefree homework-free evenings are the best! That fourth quarter seemed to drag on forever. All of a sudden there were so many projects, quizzes and tests, just when spring fever was at an all time high. But he persevered, and ended up with a 4.0 for the last quarter. Whoop-whoop!

With the scrapbook page below, I'm taking a look back at what used to be his favorite homework/study spot...the floor between the foyer and the family room. Yep, for a couple of years there, this was the place. He claimed it was comfortable. (I think he liked being in the middle of all the action.)

A grid design along with Bella Blvd. Star Student papers, stickers, and chipboard help to set the tone for my school-themed layout:

The cut-apart cards are perfect accompaniments and make assembling the page a snap.

For my mixed font title, I used two different Thickers chipboard alphas and Star Student letter stickers:

And for a little fun, I added a cork-board bulletin board, peppering it the board with banners, tags, stickers, chipboard, and a variety of coordinating brads:

So now that school's out, that boy had been taking it easy. NOT! He's actually been quite busy, lifeguarding between morning and afternoon swim practices!

Remember that song. In case you need a little lyrics refresher, the final stanza goes like this:

"Out for summer"
"Out till fall"
"We might not go back at all!"

After 3 months of freedom, it's not going to be easy! ;)

Your Journey Starts Here

The Scraptastic kit that I received this month is called the Can't Go Home kit and it practically screams color, big bold color! But somehow I managed to pull out a variety of soft, pastel papers and embellishments for the page below. I also had a bit of a different take on the kit's obvious travel theme. Thinking about my middle son's college graduation, I realized that although these last four years have been quite a journey, an even greater journey awaits. And it all starts here.

The only part of the page not from the kit is the word, "here." Wanting the last part of my title to stand out, I chose a die-cut word from my stash. Then I wrapped the word end to end, using six strands of embroidery floss.

A clustering of tags and kit embellishments decorate the page: die-cuts, flair, corkboard, chipboard, and acrylic shapes:

Another tag suggests "Let's Go"!

Have you scrapped any real or metaphorical journeys lately?

I Came, I Swam...

The page I'm sharing today uses the same Bella Blvd. collection as the page shared in yesterday's blog post. The difference here is that I limited my palette to a select few of the Color Chaos  collection's colors, mainly red, white, blue and black, handpicked to coordinate with my photo:

Again, those alphas give the title a bit of flair, with a star standing in for the letter "A":

A bit of blue mist on the background sheet was apropos for this page about my swimmer:

My title is completed with another set of Bella Blvd. alphas, polka dot chipboard alphas in blueberry:

Thanks for stopping by today! I'll be off to another swim meet this weekend. Wish him luck!

NOLA Love

When it comes to lively color palettes and trendy alphas, Bella Blvd. has it going on. I can't say enough about their recent Color Chaos collection. It's so versatile! Here I've used just about every color in the collection on this page about NOLA, New Orleans, Louisiana.

Rainbow stripes flow down the center of the page, all courtesy of a bonus paper included in the collection pack! Coordinating embellishments enhance every inch:

While all of the papers are from Color Chaos set, the embellishments are mostly from a dish of miscellany that is kept on my desk. I love sorting through all its bits and pieces and coming up with that perfect little something. Check out all the goodies I found for this page:

One of the best aspects of this and every Bella Blvd. collection is the alphabet and sticker sheet. The alphas are TOO CUTE!
