Boy Pages from the MCS June kit

So many patterned papers have pink...and flowers. Not really a problem when scrapping myself, except I also scrap boys: grown up boys, and an almost grown up (teen) boy. So this is how I handled creating two "boy" pages with a recent My Creative Scrapbooks main kit.

For the first, I went with a black, white, and yellow color scheme. I splattered white cardstock for my background, cut leafy wreaths (a My Creative Scrapbooks cut file) from off-white cardstock, used two patterned papers from the kit and added ticket stubs from my stash. The music-themed washi tape wrapped around the wood veneer jar added another touch of black. Finally-a white on white title. It's more minimalistic than some of my pages...but I LOVE it! These colors worked so well with my photo!

The second page, is truly monochromatic. Light blue, dark blue, any shade of blue was welcome here. And blue of course worked perfectly with a photo of my swimmer doing "what makes his soul happy"! Again I used mist to transform plain white cardstock for my background then cut papers into strips and banners, adding enamel dots and fussy cut clocks. A simple title from the kit's pack of Thickers completes the page.

Til next time...

Happy Together

Because my firefighter son was on duty Christmas Day, I missed taking the annual family photo after dinner at my parents' house. When I realized all five kids were present for Easter this year, I didn't hesitate to round them up for that belated snap. A spring themed cut file was the obvious choice for my scrapbook page:

The wreath of flowers is part of the Spring Fling cut file set from The Cut Shoppe on Etsy. Backed with a pretty pink floral and leaf green print, then embellished with yellow enamel dots, it beautifully frames my photo and page title:

I loved that we were all dressed in fresh spring colors: lots of teal and blue, and a peck of pink. To bring all these colors to my background paper, I enlisted gelatos in pink and blue, and finished it off with white mist. I forgot how much fun it is to play with paint!

Hoppy Easter!

When I took photos that Easter Sunday many years ago, I had forgotten that I had a black and white roll of film in the old camera, and was quite disappointed when I realized it. Oh no! All the pretty colors of Easter were washed away and replaced with grey. I suppose that's why this photo sat un-scrapped for so long. But now I can happily put the color back into the day with the pretty pastel pink and yellow patterned papers from Scraptastic's Good Day Sunshine kit. Sweet!

Here are a few closeups:

The large Easter egg above was pieced from strips of patterned papers in clean lines, but the smaller eggs below were created in the constructed/deconstructed fashion. Small pieces, torn strips, and tiny sections of punched papers were layered over a yellow polka dot base before being cut apart again into individual egg shapes.

And there's my little Easter bunny friend, admiring his handiwork. ;)

Happy Easter everyone!

Sunburst Sketch

With Susan Stringfellow's sketch in mind, and Scraptastic's May kit, Destinations Unknown in hand, I knew just what I wanted to do for this Easter Sunday photo of my dad. And it was going to be colorful! But before chopping up those papers willy-nilly, I planned out the sunburst design by drawing a template on printer paper and assigning colors to the various pieces. Assembling was then quite easy.

Did you catch the shine? Although we had quite a laid back Easter Sunday, I wanted this page to be special. After piecing the sunburst pattern, I used gold mist to add a bit of sparkle.

The 2 circular Road Trip icons from Chic Tags fit perfectly into those over-sized bottle caps from my stash. I used the striped vellum to fashion an envelope for my tag and decorated it with all sorts of fun tidbits, including a Studio Calico speech bubble, Ormolu flair, and October Afternoon "doo-dads", all from the kit and add-on.

The little birdies (originally included in one of the October kits), were a playful addition. Tweet, tweet!

You can check out the sketch and all the rest of the sketch-inspired layouts on the Scraptastic blog. TFL!
